THE CHATEAU AT MOORINGS PARK

Mom's looking great. She's going to physical therapy four times a day - yesterday I visited, she was sorting her clothes on the bed, free-standing and walking back and forth like normal and suddenly said, "Oh, my walker - I forgot it over there - could you get it for me?" - that means she *can* stand and walk and just has to strengthen up and regain confidence. Knee surgury, with good rehab, really is a miracle.

She's in less pain than she was in before the surgery and it gets less painful every day - and she's only been there SEVEN DAYS. Amazing. She's also visibly lost weight - all that heavy duty exercise The food seems quite rich but they practice portion control. She herself can FEEL the progress every day. Each morning she wakes up stronger, healthier, less pain. My bionic mom - I'm so proud of her.

The Chateau at Moorings Park is an amazing rehab center. It's like she's at summer camp (things scheduled constantly - she's barely in her room), super-rehab (the rehab room has devices for moving people's body parts that no exercise gym comes close to), excellent food and the staff actually tries to anticipate your needs.

Everything is beautiful inside. The paintings on the wall, statues, even some wonderful little birds in a large glass cage that happily twitter all day. My brother (she calls her "#1 son" 'cause he was born first) just stared at those birds for 10 minutes, absolutely amazed at her perfect this birdcage was. Needless to say, we'll be building one just like it at home.

She has another week or two to go in rehab, and I have no doubt that when she leaves, she'll have lost a few excess pounds, be stronger than she's been in years, pain free and happy. Fingers crossed! --Ken, webmaster of naplesplus - 02/19/11
