Capri’s Christmas Clauses cruised the canals Saturday night in their seventh annual holiday boat parade. Compared to the massive, almost corporate boat parades in Naples and elsewhere, with sponsors and charitable tie-ins, the Isles of Capri parade is an idiosyncratic, down-homey group of neighbors getting together to have a blast on the water.

The five judges -- Collier County Commissioner Donna Fiala, Paul and Yvonne Rhodes, Eddie and Ann Hall -- had a difficult time in selecting the winners this year. All participants were winners and will receive a plaque for their entry. However, a special recognition was given in four categories.

• “Best Overall,” went to Capt. John Rogers on 58-foot Sasha, adorned in beauty unsurpassed. Dancers in lighted hula skirts captured audiences along the waterfront, and the surfboard rider attached to the boat kept the crowd in suspense.

• “Most Creative,” went to Capt. Justin Hanna on the Kristopher’s Kringles. Some may remember this pontoon boat from last year’s parades on Capri and Marco. It was formerly the large pink bird with Santa on its back.

“This year, we went for fun,” said Jeri Neuhaus, the brainchild behind of this year’s theme. “I found these large inflatable body suits on line,” said Neuhaus.

Those who wore them were also adorned in island attire and “hula’d" their way down the river to the delight of all. The laughter broke out and created an excitement equal to none.

• The Tini Bikini with Capt. Mike Kochis captured “Most Unique.” The clever way in which his crew was able to envelop music, lights, and a Santa presentation was outstanding.

• Chuck Walton, captain of Rebound 2, along with his wife, Ginny, co-chaired the event, as they have since its inception seven years ago. They received “Most Spirited,” and rightfully so. Their crew singing and ringing bells could be heard all over the isles.
