According to a study women diagnosed with gestational diabetes are more likely to develop obstructive sleep apnea as compared to other pregnant women.

31 August 2013, USA (http://www.realpharmacyrx.co/): According to a study women diagnosed with gestational diabetes are more likely to develop obstructive sleep apnea as compared to other pregnant women. They are approximately seven times more feasible to have this disorder as compared to other pregnant women.

Gestational diabetes occurs during pregnancy and causes the glucose levels in the blood stream to rise above normal levels. It occurs mostly in the second trimester. This new study discovered a link between gestational diabetes and sleep apnea. It causes concise interruptions inbreathing during sleep.

If sleep apnea is untreated it can give a rise to stroke, heart attacks and cardiovascular diseases. It is observed that it is common for pregnant women to develop obstructive sleep apnea. Pregnant women experience sleep disruptions and sleep apnea substantially increases in women those are diagnosed with gestational diabetes.

The researchers examined number of women for their sleep apnea and sleep disruptions. This study discovered a strong association between obstructive sleep apnea and gestational diabetes. The group that developed this disorder mostly consisted of overweight or obese women. Pregnant women who did not have gestational diabetes were able to get an additional hour of sleep and had less fragmented sleep as compared those women with diabetes.

Previous research showed that fragmented sleep, lost sleep, and shorter periods spent in deep sleep are all symptoms of sleep apnea. These presages are likely to develop the risk of diabetes. Women diagnosed with this type of diabetes should be considered the evaluation of the disorder particularly if they have risk factors such as hypertension and obesity.
