A new study suggests that people whose teeth and gums are in poor condition may be more responsive to an oral virus that causes certain mouth and throat cancers.

16th September 2013 USA (http://www.realpharmacy.co/) : - A new study suggests that people whose teeth and gums are in poor condition may be more responsive to an oral virus that causes certain mouth and throat cancers. The researchers discovered that adults those who rated their oral health as poor to fair are more feasible to have an oral infection with human papillomavirus (HPV), which in certain cases can lead to cancer.

Approximately 10 percent of people with tooth or gum diseases tested positive for oral HPV. The factors that could influence the dental health are the odds of having HPV are smoking, multiple oral sex partners.

HPV can invade the mouth during oral sex. The infection that is normally induced does not show any presages. The lingering infection with a cancer-linked strain can lead to oropharyngeal cancer which influences the mouth.

Though it is a rare cancer but cases tied to it are on the rise. The reason for this is not yet determined. The people should be aware of the link between oral health and cancers of the mouth and throat. Though it is not proved that poor dental health has a high risk of developing a long-lasting HPV infection, but it is possible that diseased gums offer an entry portal for the virus.

It is already known that poor oral health is tied to a heightened risk of oropharyngeal cancer, even smoking and heavy drinking are two big risk factors for the cancer that are taken into account. To help keep your mouth health the researchers recommend regular dental visits determined by the dentist.
