The Bears may have had problems getting the rest of Collier County's high schools to believe that Saturday.

Palmetto Ridge was dominant in winning the Collier County Athletic Conference tournament at Immokalee High School. The Bears had a wrestler in the finals of every weight class but one and wound up with 10 first-place ribbons.

The Bears had a whopping 259 points in finishing first. Immokalee was a distant second with 123 points and one champion. Naples was third with 116 and also had one winner.

"I think all of our guys take pride in the CCAC meet," Rosenbalm said. "Our guys have worked a long time for this, to see who does what and how many champions we might get. All season long we've had little individual goals that lead up to a big goal. And this meet was one of our short-term goals."

Rosenbalm still sees room for improvement in his Bears leading up to the district tournament Feb. 7.

"We're not where we need to be yet," Rosenbalm said. "We want to continue to work on our conditioning and fine-tune our technique, and hopefully peak around the state tournament."

The culmination of the Bears' dominance of the CCAC on Saturday was at 285 pounds, in which Caleb Rainwaters beat Golden Gate's previously undefeated Raul Gonzalez in overtime 3-1. Gonzalez fell to 19-1 and Rainwaters improved to 19-2.

"We've worked hard all season long, and our conditioning paid off today," Rainwaters said. "We think our conditioning is better than everyone else's, and we work harder than the other guy. The fact that we got people in the finals in 13 of 14 classes says a lot."

Palmetto Ridge had plenty of other winners Saturday: Luis Garcia at 103, Blaine Ison (112), Cody Singletary (119), Bobby Dehnz (130), Brad Saxton (135), David Tanguma (140), Cody Abeln (145), Jacob Parmenter (152) and Jorge Perez (160).

Gulf Coast's Dana Luebbe won the title at 215 by beating Barron Collier's Deat Malo 15-0, the only division that did not feature a Palmetto Ridge wrestler in its final.

"I'm glad that I came out aggressively," said Luebbe, who improved his record to 28-3. "I'd beaten him before, and sometimes when I wrestle someone twice, I don't do well the second time. So I wanted to let him know that I was ready to wrestle and wanted to win."

Other conference title winners on the mats included Naples' James Dellecave at 171, Josh Dasilviera of Barron Collier at 189 and Immokalee's Jose Gomez at 125.
