10 ACRE FIRE, "The area is heavily wooded and dotted with homes."

A 10-acre Golden Gate Estates brush fire has claimed two homes and is threatening others, according to fire officials.

"The fire is moving rapidly, so we've got crews out here being really aggressive," said Golden Gate Fire District spokesman Victor Hill.

The blaze is located off Collier Boulevard, between 13th Avenue SW and 11th Avenue SW. Both roads are closed, and residents have been evacuated from homes along 13th Avenue SW.

Firefighters from Golden Gate, Big Corkscrew Island, North Naples, Immokalee, and south Lee County have joined to fight the blaze, which is sending up a column of heavy black smoke. A helicopter from Division of Forestry is dousing the area with water, Hill said.

One fire tractor is on scene, and three others are en route, Hill said.

The area is heavily wooded and dotted with homes.

"It presents some pretty interesting challenges for us."

The fire started around 2 p.m. Hill said the cause is unknown.
