FERNANDA WHITNEY -- on June 30 2009

Hello!

I would like to announce that Naples now has its very own Infant Swimming Resource Instructor! My name is Fernanda Whitney and I am now the certified ISR Instructor for the Naples area. I am very excited to be teaching the ISR program and look forward to meeting each and everyone of you.

I am sending you a brief description about the ISR program and lesson information. We have a rather extensive website that contains information about our lessons & techniques, our qualifications, parent testimonials, safety tips and drowning prevention measures, as well as a pediatric study about our program. Please visit our national website at www.infantswim.com if you have not done so already. There is also lots of information on my personal website at www.swimsafenaples.com. We have trained over 170,000 students in over 7 million SAFE lessons, and have received over 2200 letters sent to Infant Swimming Resource verifying that the skills their child learned through ISR saved them from a potential drowning situation. Every lesson, for every child, is individualized one-on-one instruction. We do not have "group" lessons, because we believe your child should have our undivided attention. We customize their lessons especially for them, to ensure the safest, most efficient lessons. We want each child to experience success and use positive reinforcement to recognize each accomplishment, no matter how small. The parent, or caregiver, watches every lesson poolside. Students attend 10-minute one-on-one lessons every Monday-Friday (five lessons per week). We typically start teaching children when they begin crawling (generally 6-8 months of age). For this age group, we teach survival floating - that is, rotating from a face-down position in the water to a survival float. It takes about 4-6 weeks to accomplish this skill. For children who are walking, or very close to walking (generally around 12 months of age), we teach the swim-float-swim sequence – that is, swimming in a face down position, using their arms and legs (similar to a crawl stroke); rolling onto their back to the same survival float; and then flipping back over to continue swimming. This skill set would take about 8 weeks to accomplish. The number of weeks often depends on the child's abilities since our lessons are child-paced. We want your child to be competent in each skill presented. During the final days of lessons we have the child practice their skills in the water while fully clothed.

Let me know if you are interested and what time frame works for your child and I'll let you know what I have available in that time frame. Please keep in mind your child's nap schedule and that they cannot eat for 1-1/2 hours prior to lessons and no dairy products for 2 hours prior to lessons when considering your lesson time of choice. Always remember, watch your children constantly both in & around the water! I look forward to hearing from you soon! Sincerely, Fernanda Whitney

Great! It is never too early to learn how to swim. Only wish I had more time to do it.
