Valencia Golf and Country Club to reopen Nov 1st 2010 after 6 month renovation
After 6 month renovation, Valencia Golf and Country Club to reopen doors to public Nov 2010 with new course, award winning greens and layout.
The renovation will include the installation of nearly 8 miles of wiring to upgrade their irrigation system along with redefining, re-contouring, and re-grassing of their current greens with MiniVerde, rated the #1 bermudagrass for putting greens over the past several years.. MiniVerde, has recently been used at the award winning Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass and the USGA test greens of Dallas Texas. MiniVerde will provide the ultimate performance of play while being more resistant to climate changes experienced in FL for a year round dark green color and the ultimate putting surface. The award winning MiniVerde renovation combined with new irrigation system will place Valencia Golf and Country Club among the best public golf courses SWFL has to offer with a scheduled completion in time for the upcoming 2010-2011 season.
The 2009-2010 season proved to be harsh to many SWFL courses. Cooler temperatures produced widespread damage to most greens throughout the area forcing them to go dormant and turn the familiar brown color most Floridians experienced on their lawns this past winter. “MiniVerde roots itself deeper into the soil and it’s root system is more aggressive which means it will handle the winter months better than the other varieties” says Keith Ihms of the USGA test greens of Dallas Texas. In addition, Keith says, “we’ve experienced fewer issues of over-thatching and will produce a truer putting surface.”
For the past 14 years Valencia Golf and Country Club, a Gordon Lewis designed 7,200 yard 5 tee-box championship course located off Immokalee Rd, has been a favorite public course to golfers in the area and tourist alike earning 4-stars from Golf Digest in 2008-2009 for play. “The 2009-2010 season proved to be one of our best seasons yet despite the harsh weather. We broke several play records this season and put forth serious effort towards improving our players golfing experience. We invested in a new online reservation system allowing patrons to book 24/7 online, focused our efforts on marketing and bringing in new golfers to our course as well as investing the time into surveying all those visiting our course about their experience.” says Chris Armstrong Director of Technology.
The course renovation is schedule to begin May 3rd and will continue through the summer reopening for the 2010-2011 season in early fall 2010.
