Local store debuts pay-per-use cross cut shredder to combat identity theft
Cash-operated commercial quality document shredder is the first in the region for individuals and small businesses
Naples, Florida -- A local store has installed the first commercial quality shredder to make identity protection easier for individuals and small businesses.
For a dollar, customers now can shred hundreds of documents in minutes. The Goin’ Postal is the first to offer the self-service technology to retail customers in the Kings Lake Shopping Center Collier County. The machines are appearing in mail stores nationwide.
Customers love the new service because it takes the hassle out of shredding, said owner Ed Metz of Goin’ Postal 4888 Davis Blvd, Naples 34104. There is no jamming, overheating or trips to the dumpster.
Best of all, it saves time. Twenty documents can be inserted at once. For $1, the machine destroys more than 300 documents - or about four pounds of paper - during 4 minutes. The machine shreds:
•All types of paper including stapled documents
• Credit cards
• DVDs and CDs
•Checkbooks/Bank Statements
Geared to individuals and small businesses that don’t have the volume or want the expense of using a mobile service, the shredders are quickly gaining popularity.
The creators of the self service shredders, You-Shred, expects to install the machines in grocery stores, banks, libraries and other convenient locations. You-Shred was started in 2008 by two Arizona businessmen, Jeff Beard and Tom Stutting, after they both complained about how long it took to destroy documents in a desk drawer.
“Users of our equipment are people who are tired of dealing with the hassle of a home shredder,” Beard said. “Why spend hundreds of dollars on a decent shredder when you can take your old bank statements and tax documents to the Goin’ Postal and shred them for a buck?”
