Make a difference in someone's life. Be a volunteer tutor!

When you become a volunteer tutor, you will change someone’s life forever, AND you will change your own life too, through personal satisfaction and pride in seeing your student succeed. You also will make some great friends!

Literacy Volunteers of Collier County (LVCC) tutors are the backbone of the organization. We would not be where we are today, helping hundreds of people in Collier County learn English, without our volunteer tutors. However, due to our growing population, we need more tutors to teach English to individuals who need to learn or improve their English skills in order to function and thrive in an English-speaking society. WE NEED YOU!

It’s easy to join LVCC as a volunteer tutor. All you need is: • To be a high school graduate, or GED; • A desire to help others learn to read, write, speak and understand English; and • Two or three hours a week to devote to your student.

That’s it! You do not need to be proficient in a foreign language, nor do you need a teaching background. LVCC provides the 12 hours of training and materials to get you started, at the LVCC offices located at 8833 Tamiami Trail East, Naples Fl 34113.

Upon completion of the training, tutors receive a Pro-Literacy Tutor Certification and are matched with a student, according to the preferred days, time frames, and locations given by both parties. Tutors and students usually meet twice a week, either at our LVCC offices or in a public place such as a library, a community building, mall, or church.

Additionally, a mentor is assigned to each tutor to answer any future questions and be a continuous resource, thus, guaranteeing success in the new tutor role. The LVCC staff is always available to help tutors succeed.
