Cutting and removing concrete is obviously not an easy job and doesn’t come cheap.

March 22, 2014 - Cutting and removing concrete is obviously not an easy job and doesn’t come cheap. The average cost of converting a house to modern UPVC fascia boards and plastic guttering is in excess of £2000. A pricey job but worth paying to stop leakages and damp. However from our investigation of Finlock Solutions Ltd it’s definitely not worth paying if the work in fact leads to leakages and damp. His current company website goes to great pains to warn you off cowboys but how does his track record stack up?

In 2011 Paul Hinton set up Roof Guard Solutions Limited. He resigned as director of the company later that year but carried on working there and continued to own half the company. In April 2012 Paul Hinton quoted a job for Kay Perkins. She paid £2100 to have her old concrete gutters cut off and replaced with UPVC fascia boards and plastic guttering. But as soon as they’d finished she noticed some serious problems. The gutters leaked at the joints and water poured over the side as there were insufficient brackets to support the weight of the gutter. In time this lead to internal damage as water leaked into her living room damaging the ceiling.

As well as damaging Kay’s house Roof Guard Solutions also managed to damage one neighbour’s fence and another person’s caravan during the job. Eventually her neighbours received compensation but despite Paul Hinton saying that they would fix her problems no-one ever came round and no refund was offered. Eventually Kay took Roof Guard Solutions Limited to the small claims court, which was judged in her favour. The company was ordered to compensate her £931. This was never paid by Roof Guard Solutions and the company ceased trading in the middle of 2012.

But this was not the end of Paul Hinton’s gutter-cutting days. He set up as new company called Finlock Solutions Ltd offering the exact same services. One of their customers Gemma Smith contacted us with a very similar story of shoddy workmanship. She paid £2330 and ended up with a number of leaks and poor finishing. Gemma did eventually get the work rectified by Finlock Solutions Ltd but only after six months of complaining. And despite requests she has been refused any compensation for the damage caused.
