Chain link fencing and gates are made from individual wires that are galvanized. The fencing and gates made of this material are used in many residential and commercial applications. This is the most common fencing material to see around playgrounds, tennis courts, school yards, and private residences.

The wire that creates the fencing and gates made of this material come in rolls. Most of the rolls will measure between twenty feet and fifty feet. The height of the wire will vary greatly depending on the application that is being used in. You can get this wire mesh in heights of four feet, six feet, eight feet, ten feet, and twelve feet. The taller pieces are used more in commercial construction than in residential construction.

The fencing and gates built from this material has steel posts that are placed at each corner of the perimeter and then they are evenly spaced to provide the fencing material more strength. There is a top and bottom rail made of the same materials as the posts are made of. The top and bottom rail is generally made of a smaller diameter material than the posts and upright supports are created from.

The galvanized wire is used in this type of fencing because galvanized wire does not rust. If you were to use a wire that had a tendency to rust when left outdoors it would not be very long before your fence would become unsightly and could become dangerous. When wire rusts it will break into more than one piece and each piece will have a sharp end that could potentially injure people or animals that come into contact with them.

The woven design left in the finished material of the fencing is small enough that most animals cannot squeeze through them. You will not be effectively stopping snakes and rodents, but larger animals like dogs, cats, and such cannot get through the fence.

The fence can be climbed so when it is crucial for you to keep something in or something out you will want to use the taller posts and wiring. The taller the wiring is the harder it is for someone, or something, to climb over it, jump over it, or throws something over it. When the materials are used around prisons and detainment centers the application of razor wire above the chain link mesh is used to further discourage the inmates from attempting to break out by climbing the fence.

The materials used to create these barriers are not unsightly. They are strong and they last for long periods of time with no upkeep. They do allow visibility onto the property they surround, but they do clearly show where the property line is and establish a tangible boundary line.
