DHSMV (New) Emergency Contact Information
"Effective Monday, October 2, 2006, the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles will offer customers who hold a current driver license or identification card the ability to provide emergency contact information via the DHSMV homepage (www.hsmv.state.fl.us). Customers may enter information for up to two emergency contacts. The emergency contact information can be accessed by law enforcement in the event of an emergency (through DAVID)." The emergency contact data entered on the web page is immediately available to law enforcement (through DAVID). (This registration process is only available through the internet now but in January of 2007 they will provide this service in our DL offices too.
Also effective 10/1/2006 DL Offices will be issuing ID cards to children age 5 and over (used to be 12 years old and older) for $3
This came about as a result of one woman's teenage daughter being killed in a car accident and it took over 5 hours to locate the mother to tell her. This way, if you are in an accident, the police can run the drivers license and have the emergency info ASAP. PLEASE FORWARD TO ANYONE ELSE THIS COULD BENEFIT! https://www6.hsmv.state.fl.us/dlcheck/findcustomer
