* Flamingo Vegas Style Games gives a big bang for the buck
Maybe it isn't Monte Carlo, with James Bond or Tony Stark frittering away wads of cash, a martini in one hand and a supermodel in the other; but it is gaming and it is fun. Flamingo Vegas Style Games is a new addition to the Estey Air Plaza on Airport Road, north of Davis Boulevard.
* It's Christmastime at Palm Cottage!
Maybe we don't have snow in Naples, but that doesn't mean we forget about Christmas. The nonprofit Naples Historical Society (NHS) is dedicated to the preservation of Naples history and heritage.
* Bernard's is a hidden gem
Bernard's, in the Royal Wood Golf & Country Club, off Rattlesnake-Hammock Road, is a Naples secret that has been held for too long. The beautiful grounds, with water and fairway views, provide a stimulating backdrop for diners at the tastefully appointed restaurant.
* Cocktail: Carla Valenti opens new jazz club
It looks like Naples is moving up in the world of entertainment and nightlife. Many local taverns and bistros feature a round robin of very good entertainers who have moved or retired here, but the newly opened Carla's, has brought the sophisticated kind of place you'd find in any big city.
* Hot Ticket No. 1: Snowfest Saturday, Dec. 6
Seventy tons of ice snow will fall upon Golden Gate Community Park, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The annual, free event will feature snow hills for climbing and tobogganing, winter-themed and pony rides, ice-skating, food, a carnival and Mrs. Claus's arts and crafts tent.
* Dining: Jaegerhaus serves up Old World charm
Ever since Dale and Arthur Stoerchle brought their 32 years of German restaurant experience to Naples' Tower Plaza from New York, Neapolitans have been treated to a splendid little oasis of traditional Southern German cuisine.
* Hot Ticket No. 2: City of Naples Christmas Parade Tuesday, Dec. 9
The annual city of Naples Christmas Parade will be held at 6 p.m. The parade route begins on from Broad Avenue, downtown near the Naples Pier, proceeds to Third Street South, then to Fifth Avenue South, Eighth Street South, and finally, to Eighth Avenue South.
* Cocktail: Stoney's Steakhouse is all fired up
Sure, Stoney's is a great place to eat, with the best cuts of meat cooked to perfection at the beautiful, waterfront Bayfront Place downtown. But, it's also a swinging nightspot when the sun goes down.
* Hot Ticket No. 3: Christmas Boat Parade Saturday, Dec. 13
The annual Christmas Boat Parade will be held from 6 to 9 p.m., beginning at the Naples City Dock. The public is invited to watch as numerous holiday-clad vessels from all over Southwest Florida traverse the bay, with all proceeds going to the Ricky King Fund.
* Golf: Use the short game to lower your handicap
The full swing and its corresponding set up factors are the most important factors for success in your golf game. However, the short or "scoring" game, whose main objective for professional players is to turn three shots into two from inside 100 yards of the pin as often as possible.
* History: The tale of Olde Naples Pier
First came the hotel, and then the pier. In January 1888, there was, as yet, no pier. Before it, the Naples Company used the fastest steamship on the coast, Capt. Merritt's Fearless, which the company purchased.

Here in southwest Florida, many types of live and dead bait are employed with great success year-round on the inshore and offshore fishing grounds.

"The Taming of the Shrew" will be part of the The Naples Publick Theatre's inaugural production, "All the World's a Stage." They will perform a selection of scenes from Shakespeare's plays, at 7 p.m. on Dec. 4.
* Sunspot: Pinafore
The Opera Naples annual family opera performance of Gilbert & Sullivan's "H.M.S. Pinafore," sung in English, will be performed in Cambier Park at 7:30 p.m., Dec. 5 and 6. Tickets are available in a Family Four Pack at $100 for two adults and two children. Individual tickets may be purchased online at or by calling toll free 1-800-771-1041.
