HAZMAT situation in Immokalee
COLLIER COUNTY: HAZMAT crews have been called to the Immokalee substation of the Collier County Sheriff's Office at 112 South First Street.
A citizen discovered some white powder in an envelope and took it into the substation.
Two sheriff's office employees and the man who took the powder to the substation were the only ones who came in contact with the powder.
They are not suffering any ill-effects from the powder.
The three people affected have been isolated inside the building.
The rest of the building has been evacuated.
The Immokalee casino's grand reopening is happening about a block away, which is causing traffic problems for emergency crews.

Udut, Kenneth from Golden Gate Estates, Naples, FL Associate, 3508 posts | Update: The white powder has been identified as cocaine. We'll have more information as it becomes available. The North Naples Fire Department Hazmat team is responding to an emergency call from the Immokalee Sheriff's substation. Around 10:30 this morning a man brought in an envelope with white powder. He told deputies he had opened it earlier and wanted it checked. The building and more than a dozen people were evacuated and taken to the parking lot behind the station. A spokesman say the man and two Sheriff's staff members came into close contact with the envelope. They are still in the substation waiting for possible decontamination. No one is feeling any side effects from the exposure. |
