Naples, Florida - Did you know that rabies is 100% preventable, yet it is estimated that worldwide one person dies from rabies every 10 minutes? In an effort to raise awareness about rabies, the Collier Spay Neuter Clinic, in honor of World Rabies Day, is offering a free rabies vaccination (value $15) to all spay or neuter patients with scheduled appointments on September 28. The free vaccine is available to pet patients providing their owners purchase a County license for their pet. Licenses are available for Collier and Lee residents for $8 and $10, respectively. A viral disease that is transmitted mainly by bite to both animals and humans, rabies exposure can also occur through broken skin or mucous membrane that comes in contact with an infected animal's saliva. Established in September 2006, the mission of World Rabies Day is "working together to make rabies history". This effort brings organizations together to address both control and prevention of rabies. To schedule an appointment for your pet's spay or neuter, call the clinic at 239-514-SNIP (7647).
