Celebrate American Heart Month by Getting CPR Certified
Naples, FL (February 2, 2010): February is American Heart month. It’s the perfect time to get certified in CPR, which typically includes the use of AED’s (automated external defibrillator) and handling choking emergencies. According to the American Heart Association, about 80 percent of all out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur in private residential settings, so being trained to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) can mean the difference between life and death for a loved one.. If bystander CPR is not provided, a sudden cardiac arrest victim’s chances of survival fall 7 percent to 10 percent for every minute of delay until defibrillation. Few attempts at resuscitation are successful if CPR and defibrillation are not provided within minutes of collapse. Frank Smith, owner of Collier CPR and Safety Training, Naples, FL is passionate about getting in front of groups of people and removing any fear of performing CPR, using an AED and /or performing the Heimlich maneuver. Smith is an authorized provider for both the American Heart Association and the American Red Cross and teaches CPR, AED, BLS (basic life support) and First Aid classes to healthcare providers, those needing a certification for work and the general public. Classes are held in Naples, Marco Island, Bonita Springs and Fort Myers, FL. According to Smith: “I notice automated external defibrillators in most public places but the majority of people I talk to do not know how to use them or the current steps of performing CPR. I plan to change that.” Target audiences include neighborhoods and condominiums with a clubhouse or meeting room, businesses, daycares, churches, fitness centers; golf, yacht and tennis clubs, dental/doctor offices, volunteer groups, schools, civic groups, hotel and restaurant employees. In home classes (aka CPR parties) are gaining popularity as well. If you are trying to think of something to give your Valentine this year, consider CPR and AED training. Smith’s company motto is “What you learn today can save a life tomorrow.” More information on Collier CPR and Safety Training can be found at www.colliercpr.com or by calling (239) 537-0495.
