Flesher Farms annual Christmas light display received $6,035 in donations – money that the Fleshers then donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation to grant the wish of a 6-year-old Naples girl.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Southern Florida was presented a check in the amount of $6,035 by Margaret Flesher and son, Chuck of Flesher Farm. The check was presented to Judith Yevick, West Coast Operations Manager for Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Florida and the money will be used to adopt a wish for a 6-year-old Naples girl who has been battling liver cancer her entire life. Her wish is to visit Nickelodeon Resort in Orlando where SpongeBob just happens to reside.
“The money was raised at the farm through donations collected during the Christmas Holiday Season. The farm comes alive with thousands upon thousands of beautiful lights – there was a simple sign displayed saying that donations would be used to support local charities and with that simple sign and the generosity of the farm’s visitors …. a wish is now able to be granted,” said Yevick.
The family has been decorating their farm with thousands of beautiful lights, Santa displays, angels, stars and other Christmas decorations for 24 years. The preparation and installation of the lights for the annual event takes between 300 and 500 hours. The family works on the brilliant display for nine weeks prior to Thanksgiving in order to have it completed on time for the kick-off of the holiday season.
The farm also includes a live Santa so children can give their wish list directly to the man in red. Visitors can also ride on a sleigh that was built by Chuck Flesher himself. The farm is located on Bonita Grande in Bonita Springs and is a must see for area residents as well as visitors to the area. The family is planning on making another wish come true next year. Plans are already being made to have Frosty the Snow Man as their guest next year.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Florida grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy. Twenty-seven years of magic and more than 7,500 wishes later, the Foundation continues its mission to share the power of a wish® with ailing children.
