Newly formed President’s Council will work to grow awareness for the Make-A-Wish Foundation in the Collier County community with chairs Sandra and Reg Buxton leading the way.

Sandra and Reg Buxton have been selected by the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Southern Florida to chair the newly formed Collier County President’s Council. The Buxtons will serve together as the chairs of this council and will work to promote awareness, presence and advocacy in Collier County for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Florida.

Norm Wedderburn, president and CEO of the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Southern Florida said, “We have wanted to grow our presence in Collier County for some time and believe with active community leaders, such as Sandra and Reg Buxton, we will build awareness and support. There are currently 15 children in Collier County waiting for wishes to be granted. Our goal is to gain local advocates that can tell the story and share the vision and mission of the Foundation.”

The Buxtons were chosen to chair the Collier County President’s Council because of their strong community involvement and desire to help children with life-threatening medical conditions. Sandra is currently the COO/CNO of a SWFL home health agency and is motivated to care for the needs of others. She has served in many leadership roles in the community including: former Board Member Funtime Nursery, Leadership Institute, United Way, Education Foundation former Board Member -- to name a few.

She is proud of her current volunteer activities including: Take Stock in Children Mentor, Baby Basic’s Board Member, NCH annual Gala fundraiser, Women’s Philanthropic Network - Junior Women of Initiative Mentor, Greater Naples Leadership, Guadalupe Center Advisory Board, and the Boys and Girls Club Women’s Auxiliary.

Reg Buxton is well known in Collier County and is the publisher of the Journals, four monthly publications that focus on local news. He is a community leader who has lived in Collier County for 16 years. Reg has served as: former President and Board Member for Funtime Nursery, United Way of Collier County Board member and Campaign Co-Chair, American Red Cross Board member-Vice Chair and current Regional Chair for Collier/Lee Red Cross, Hodges University Presidents Council and Hodges University Veterans Cabinet, Naples Town Hall Series Board member, David Lawrence Foundation Board, Collier County Citizen Corp President, Freedom Memorial Cabinet Founding member, Distinguished Public Services Awards Founding member, Collier County Public Schools Marketing/Media advisory council, Von Liebig Board member, Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce, Graduate of Leadership Collier and Leadership Institute, and Education Foundation’s Man of Distinction 2007.

“We are excited to help the Make-A-Wish Foundation build advocates in Collier County. I have children and grandchildren; I know what it is like to worry about your child when they are sick or hurting. I hope that our involvement in the Foundation can somehow make wishes come true for local children,” said Sandra Buxton.

“Our desire is to build awareness which will in turn build supporters who will adopt the wish of a local child. Once you learn about the power of a wish, you want to share it with others… and that is our plan,” said Reg Buxton.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Florida grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy.
