We go softly - just the gurgle of water at our stern and a gentle breeze across the deck as our 34 foot sailing catamaran, TropicBird slips through the Gulf of Mexico in Florida’s pristine Ten Thousand Islands - seeing, hearing and experiencing nature as intended, and in complete comfort on your private luxury, master naturalist led tour

Our incredible shoal draft - we can operate in as little as 18”, means we can explore areas inaccessible to larger and indeed many much smaller craft.

We only do one tour a day which means we have time to linger, and we do not sell individual places so it’s your private charter. We can therefore tailor our itinerary and activities to your specific interests and party’s composition.

Everything is included in your full-day private tour including, lunch, snacks and refreshments. Tropicbird is perfect for families, groups of friends or that very special occasion for a couple.

At TropicBird Ecotours we are dedicated to providing our guests with the highest level of amenities, service and interpretive content.

Based in Calusa Island Marina in Goodland 35 minutes from downtown Naples and 15 minutes from the resorts of Marco Island, our cruising area is entirely within protected waters administered by the 10,000 Islands National Wildlife Refuge and Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve.

As soon as we leave our slip civilization is left behind. Ahead lies an uninterrupted maze of pristine islands covered in dark green mangrove trees that stretches into Everglades National Park and all the way to the Florida Keys.

Every trip is different but we can promise you beautiful views and refreshing sea breezes, dolphins, scudding clouds, plunging pelicans, ospreys,as well as an assortment of Florida’s some 30 species of wading birds. In warmer months if we’re lucky we might even encounter manatees or spot a sea turtle.

We are the only naturalist-led ecotours of the 10,000 Islands under sail. Perfect for families, groups of friends or that very special occasion for a couple.

We went out expecting just a nice day on the water. Instead we were treated as VIP guests and to wonderful but informal interpretive program about the 10,000 Islands ecosystem. Capt Patrick is a consummate naturalist and host. Dolphins appeared almost on cue. After a delightful sail with us sitting in loungers on the foredeck we anchored in a back bay surrounded by pristine scenery. Drinks and hors d'oeuvres were served in the shade of the cockpit while Patrick turned from captain to chef and produced a lovely sit-down lunch in the main salon. We then went off in the dinghy to explore a nearby island and do some shelling. The best thing was the tranquillity. We hardly saw another soul! It’s best to pick a day when at least part of the trip is at low tide because that’s when the wading birds are most active, but definitely one of the best things we’ve done here.
