Nearly 100 people were present at the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Florida’s 2011 Appreciation Night celebration thanking volunteers and community partners for their support.

Volunteers and community partners were honored and thanked at the 2011 Appreciation Night celebration and dinner presented by The Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Southern Florida. The event was held at the Holiday Inn Airport at Gulf Coast Town Center with nearly 100 people present.

Norm Wedderburn, president and CEO of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Florida was on hand to welcome everyone and to speak about the incredible devotion and commitment volunteers and partners play in the wish granting process. He recognized the commitment to help the Foundation deliver its mission of granting wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions.

Wish child, Matt Milligan and his family were present for the celebration and Matt spoke about his health challenges, his accomplishments and perseverance for a full life and, of course, his recent trip to Washington D.C. where he visited and met with the staff of National Geographic. Matt’s wish allowed him to interact with professional photographers and even take photos with an ‘awesome cool’ $30,000 camera, as Matt referred to it. Matt’s dream is to be the youngest photographer employed by National Geographic and by the examples of his photography exhibited on his website he may just reach that goal.

Matt thanked everyone for making his wish come true and expressed his deepest gratitude for everyone involved. Needless to say, everyone was impressed with Matt Milligan and his video presentation summarizing his amazing wish.

Because of their efforts and dedication to making wishes come true, the following individuals and companies were singled out for their outstanding efforts during the past year and were presented individual awards: VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR - Bob DesJardin JOAN FENWICK WISH GRANTER OF THE YEAR - Sue Lottridge WISHMAKER OF THE YEAR – Jeff Sills COMMUNITY PARTNER OF THE YEAR – The Flesher Family of Bonita Springs MEDIA PARTNER OF THE YEAR – WINK TV REFERRAL AGENT OF THE YEAR – Abby Bettencourt AMBASSADOR OF THE YEAR – Vincent Murphy RISING STAR OF THE YEAR – Ashley Izzo and Taylor Marini

The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Florida grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy. Twenty-eight years of magic and more than 7,500 wishes later, the Foundation continues its mission to share the power of a wish® with ailing children.
