The hard work of Florida Gulf Coast University Chi Omega sorority sisters has granted young Natalia her wish to meet TV’s Carmindy Bowyer.

Members of the Chi Omega women’s fraternal organization at Florida Gulf Coast University helped make a wish come true for a local girl diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition.

The Chi Omega members raised funds to grant 16 year old Natalia’s wish to meet Carmindy Bowyer from TLC’s What Not to Wear. Natalia, who was diagnosed with ventricle failure, will meet Carmindy due to the hard work of Pi Mu Chapter of Chi Omega. The Florida Gulf Coast chapter raised $5,860 throughout the year by hosting events such as a golf tournament, Chili Con Chi O and Chi O Kickball.

Natalia is one of thousands of courageous kids throughout the nation who Chi Omega members have helped through the organization’s national alliance with the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Since 2002, Chi Omega has contributed more than 430,000 volunteer hours and raised more than $6.8 million to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

“It’s genuinely moving to see an organization embrace our mission so fully,” said Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Florida’s CEO/President Norm Wedderburn. “From fundraising to volunteer work, Chi Omega members have done so much to bring joy to wish kids in the Southern Florida area.”

The key to the success of the alliance is the enthusiasm Chi Omega members show for the Foundation’s mission.

“The Make-A-Wish Foundation does wonderful, life-affirming work,” said Pi Mu’s President Katie Feldman “A wish experience makes such a profound impact on wish kids and their families – as volunteers and fundraisers, and we clearly see the hope, strength and joy that each wish offers.”

The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Founded in 1980 when a group of caring volunteers helped a young boy fulfill his dream of becoming a police officer, the Foundation is now the largest wish-granting charity in the world, with 64 chapters in the United States and its territories. The Southern Florida chapter grants a wish every 16 hours and has granted more than 8,000 wishes since its inception 28 years ago. Over the years, Chi Omega has nurtured its members, one woman at a time, with unique opportunities in leadership, scholarship and lifelong friendship - striving to provide each Sister with a commitment to personal integrity, excellence in academic and intellectual pursuits, intergenerational participation, community service, leadership opportunities and social enrichment.
