The Walking with the Wounded challenge to climb Kilimanjaro will be a 9 day trip departing on 28th September with 7 days of climbing. They will climb via the Machame route, which offers excellent acclimatisation and as a result has the highest success rate.

Walking With The Wounded is a UK based charity which funds both the re-training and re-education of wounded servicemen and women with the aim of helping them find long term employment after they have left the Armed Forces.

The charity’s main fundraising activities are focussed on extreme expeditions to highlight the extraordinary determination and courage of Our Wounded soldiers. These have included trips to the North Pole and treks up Everest and in 2013, three teams of wounded service personnel will race to the South Pole in the largest expedition to date.

Andrew Cook , Director of Fundraising at Walking with the Wounded said “While our main expeditions are best left to trained Antarctic explorers, we are keen to develop similar walking challenges that are more accessible. These allow supporters of our charity to join in with Our Wounded Soldiers on a great fun challenge. We have a sell out Cumbrian Challenge with 100 teams racing across the Lakeland Fells on 18th May and we saw Kilimanjaro as another great challenge that supporters would really enjoy.”

Paul Deakin of Private Expeditions the high altitude trekking specialists organising the climb commented “Kilimanjaro is a fantastic challenge. Although it requires no technical climbing it does need bucket loads of determination. Climbers joining this challenge will not just be tested themselves but will see first hand how Our Wounded Soldiers overcome even the most horrific injuries.”Private Expeditions Walking with the Wounded 2013 challenge

Private Expeditions are high altitude trekking specialists-helping you Climb Kilimanjaro, trek Everest and trek Machu Picchu safely

Private Expeditions are high altitude trekking specialists. We are 100% focussed on helping you trek safely and enjoy the iconic high altitude destinations: Kilimanjaro, Himalaya and Machu Picchu. We have a team of UK based advisers who have trekked extensively in these destinations themselves and can provide you with all the first hand expert advice you need to plan your perfect trip.

And where we are really different is that we operate our own expeditions to make sure you have an amazing experience. We hand pick and train all our guides, specify and buy all of our equipment, oversee your menus so you are fed well and ensure that every aspect of your trip operates to the highest standard.

When you book with us your booking is with Private Expeditions Limited, a fully insured and bonded member of ABTA so you know you are financially safe and properly protected. We then have fully licensed operating companies in each country: Private Kilimanjaro, Private Himalaya and Private Machu Picchu that run your trip.

An important part of our approach to trekking is to care for our crew, care for the local environment and care for the community in which we are operating. To that end we support the International Porters Protection Group and Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project both of which work to promote good standards for guides and porters. We also operate our treks in compliance with the Leave no Trace principles and contributeto a children's charity in each country.

The end result of all the effort to get your trip just right is that we consistently get great reviews from our clients. You can check out what they say about us on facebook, G+ or Linkedin or on our reviews here.

We look forward to talking to you
