Looking back at the Big Data Innovation Summit and Exhibition which took place
June 14, 2013 – Looking back at the Big Data Innovation Summit and Exhibition which took place on the 30th April & 1st May at the Lancaster London Hotel, Innovation Enterprise share CERN’s keynote presentation, ‘Solving the Mysteries of the Universe with Big Data
Europe’s third flagship Big Data Innovation Summit took place earlier this month, and with over 400 data science pioneers participating this was Europe’s largest executive led Big Data event. Amongst the attendees were senior decision makers from Skype, Pfizer, BT, Yahoo!, O2, CERN, BBC, and more, combining leaders from different industries to share their Big Data insight.
Alongside this summit, some of the most influential solution providers such as Hortonworks, Pentaho, Connotate & Absoludata showcased their technologies at the Big Data Exhibition, including informative workshops and interactive roundtable discussions diving deeper into Big Data’s biggest problems.
“As technology advances and the world’s most successful organisations strive to achieve data driven strategies, there’s a real need to explore Big Data innovations and conquer the ever growing number of challenges,” said Giles Godwin Brown, Event Director. With a highly interactive and heavily content driven format this summit provided the ideal platform for attendees to share use cases, challenges and best practices. The cross industry structure allowed executives to discover and apply the solutions from other industries to solve their own problems, whilst expanding their networks.
Amongst the keynote speakers was Sverre Jarp, Chief Technology Officer at CERN. His presentation, “Solving the Mysteries of the Universe with Big Data” shared CERN’s Big Data secrets, revealing details of their LHC Computing Grid that harnesses the power of tens of thousands of computers distributed across more than 150 computer centres. The presentation focused on how CERN manage their vast amounts of data today and the future innovations being implemented to ensure that they continue to meet the extreme needs of the LHC in the future.
The worldwide scientific community stood still as CERN announced their observations of a particle consistent with the long-sought Higgs boson. However, without technological advancements in Big Data, this would not have been possible. With real life examples from today’s Big Data pioneers this summit successfully equips senior level decision makers with the insight they need to achieve.
