BESTProto, the leading PWB assembly services based in Illinois, recently announced their intention of switching to a completely ‘Lead Free’ assembly process.
United States - 17th July, 2013 BESTProto, the leading PWB assembly services based in Illinois, recently announced their intention of switching to a completely ‘Lead Free’ assembly process. For initiation to this eco-friendly mode, the company has gone for Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Compliance. It stipulates that electronic and electrical products should be minus any of the 6-mentioned substances - namely PBDE, hexavalent chromium, lead, mercury, cadmium, and PBB.
By complying with RoHS stipulation, BESTProto no longer has the permission to use lead solder with amounts higher than 0.1% in their PCB assembly. In order to prepare for this shift in the coming times, the company has already started making preparations. For starters, it has begun resource investment in stocking and in finding alternates related to RoHS-compliant fluxes and solders. They have also started investing and installing new equipment for production as well as processes and implemented systems.
BESTProto is all set to offer this service for both their overseas and domestic customers. However, in order to make the most of this kind of service, it is necessary for clients to request the same during the build order period. In keeping with this new initiative, the company plans to manufacture lead-free prototype PCB and offer their assembly. They also want to involve their customers for BOM conversions of their existing products, which are non-compliant. However, for clients related to industries free from RoHS compliance needs, including military, the company wants to keep on with the development of lead/tin-based processes.
In the coming times, BESTProto wants to have state-of-the-art operational capabilities handy for getting on with their lead-free assembly processes. Already they have the necessary equipment, the needed processes, as well as trained personnel in place for a starting with such productions in the near future. The company is in close discussions with the engineering community for lead-free process refinements and related circuit card assembly service. In order to do this successfully, and make a smooth transition, the company invested in a separate solder system, especially dedicated to lead free developments. This way there is not going to be any interference or disruption of both their lead-based and lead free manufacturing processes.
About the Company BestProto.com is a group of professional soldering technicians, SMT (surface mount technology) process engineers and business people who are committed to rapidly building electromechanical and PCB prototype while providing small highly specialized businesses, start-ups and incubator companies with small production or specialty build capabilities.
