There are ways, of course, you are aware of them. Like medications or hair transplant surgery. But you might have tried them already. The drugs stimulate existing hair follicles to grow longer hair. But these hair do not appear to be normal. In surgery, hair are just transplanted from one part of scalp to another. In both of the methods, existing hair follicles are used. None of them focuses on growing new hair follicles.

Researchers tried to address the same issue in their recent experiment. They took donor hair cells and cloned them. The cloned cells were reinserted into the body. It was hoped that cloned cells will figure out what do i.e. to grow new follicles for hair development. These cells were not genetically manipulated. However, this process was not successful. Hence researchers tried with cells inserted upside down in seven human skin donor models.

This process was a success in five candidates. They were able to produce new hair follicles. However, there is scope for improving the texture of hair as the researchers have told. Similarly, this process may be difficult to administer in women on account of less availability of donor hair.

For now, the research is in its early stages and more is yet to be achieved. Possible side effects and costs issues are yet to be answered. However, this research gives the hope that it may be possible to rejuvenate existing hair follicles or to grow them anew. According to researchers, it is a better way to replace hair in men above 50 years.
