In this modern age, we have a huge variety of ways to get from point A to point B. Gone are the days where the only option was to get walking or get nowhere! As the centuries have passed, we as humans have designed and developed hundreds of different travel methods, some to suit one kind of person, others suit different people entirely – that’s the great thing about travelling, if one way doesn’t suit you then there is always another option.

This article points out the main sources of travel and the pros and cons of using them.

1) Train

The train has been around for well over a century and has changed to suit our ever-growing levels of technology. Trains are great because they are fast, avoid traffic so you can pinpoint exact arrival times, and they are comfortable. However, tube trains (London) can become very cramped during rush hour and might be stressful, especially for the elderly or disabled. Train travel these days is extremely expensive, costing as much as £200 to get from one end of England to the other…that’s more than the average plane journey to Spain!

2) Cars

The most common form of travel is the car – developed in the early 1900s, the car is a staple part of most families, transporting them from place to place with no booking seats and no missed journeys. They are private, comfortable and convenient. However, owning and running a car can be expensive (unless you lease a Mercedes) and there is never a definite arrival time due to traffic/congestion on the roads. They can also be quite dangerous in bad weather.

3) Buses

Buses are great for a cheap travel option and local pick up’s/drop offs – but they can become cramped and finding a seat is difficult at peak times. They are also very slow and likely to be caught in traffic (unless there’s a bus lane). The times are not always spot-on either because congestion may slow them down.

4) Planes

They’re great for getting out of the country but not so great for national travel in England – our country is a bit small. Depending on the airline you travel with, they can be cheap but planes are likely to be delayed, baggage can be lost and the cabin pressure during flights can make people sick/ill.

So there you have it, the main forms of modern travel and the pros and cons of using them! Have a safe trip!
