Myspace.com - you're on it. Not just for musicians anymore. It's teen hangout supreme. And their moms. And grandmoms too!

Back years ago, http://www.myspace.com/ was a spot for musicians to showcase their work. A place for musicians to post their gigs, drummers wanted (and every band needs a bassist it seems - maybe the webmaster should learn bass).

Then it shut down.

A short time later, myspace.com reemerged. Flexible, free and open, it allows the users to use their own CSS and embed flash animations quite easily, allowing the pimp-age of one's myspace.

Myspace has captured the sense of privacy and ownership among its patrons, something that few websites have succeeded in doing. Each person who has a myspace page feels as if it really is THEIR space - private, just their group of friends, tucked away in a hidden corner of the world, where their alter-egos can roam free. Every girl can be a flirt and every boy can be a pimp. And so long as they watch for the predators of society (who always find a way in), a relatively safe outlet for expression.

But to those on the career track, beware! Your bosses look you up on myspace. Your boss may not like how you represent yourself. We're not talking about frustrated parents who see doom-and-gloom "oh no, my daughter's myspace - she's not the person i thought she was" (oh, mother, your daughter is probably just expressing the repressed internal desires - and think of it this way - kids don't think their parents are capable of using myspace - they really believe that - so you can use it to your advantage if you feel the need to snoop. As an aside, years ago, I worked at Radio Shack and the most popular item among mother's of teenagers (especially girls): Telephone tape recorders. Thanks to the internet and that myspace sense of privacy and seclusion, teenagers feel they have more privacy online than they ever felt they had on the phone. They think their parents are dumber than ever. So, paranoid mothers of too-quiet daughters rejoice - you have an easy way to spy on your kids now.

Kids beware: Your parents are probably smarter than you think and while they don't know everything (they probably don't care about your life as much as you think they do) - they probably know more than they let on. Grandmothers are especially wise - they know that to know and say nothing much is power. Unless of course your parents are vocally paranoid - then they're probably grasping at straws and letting their imagination run away with them.

Just be gentle with them.

If you've never been to myspace, join up at: http://www.myspace.com/
