It is so thin that even the keenest eyed individual would struggle to see it but because it moves at fifty plus times a second it can make a noise if it snaps.
When it snaps it causes the read/write heads to lose their way and this is where the problem intensifies, as too does the noise. Passing over the platters these read/write heads are cushioned between a thin layer of air that stops them from actually meeting with the platters but the knock on effect of the actuator arm snapping and causing the read/write heads to jump out of alignment means that they touch the platters, causing them also to misfire.
Looking at a hard drive one might think that such things are not enough to cause such a loud noise but they are and often do. It is probably best summed up like this; if it is clicking then the time bomb is ticking and the resultant time bomb going off is a loss of the hard drive and potential loss of data.
We can offer you but one piece of advice in this instance: if you are using a computer that has suddenly started to make the clicking sound we have referred to then stop immediately. Shut it down in the correct way, power down and contact us; ensuring along the way that no one else has access to the machine.
