The world of magicians has enthralled people through the ages. Many childhood fables had an evil magician as the villain. While it is almost obvious to everyone that magic is a performing art, there was a sense of disbelief that lifted magicians to the level of legends in the past. The legend of catching a bullet with the mouth was one of the most famous tricks in the past. The most famous personality who is associated with this trick was called Chung Ling Soo. The real name of the American magician was William Ellsworth Robinson. He died during a demonstration in London in the year 1918.

Every trick that commands an audience requires many months and years of practice before being accomplished with panache. A magician with repute currently is Steven Frayne who is popularly known as Dynamo. In Newcastle, the world of magic is the subject of an exhibition called Magic Worlds which will be running from March 22 to June 22, 2014 at the Great North Museum in Hancock, Barras Bridge. The exhibits include a plate used by Chung Ling Soo to catch the bullet.

Students of Newcastle University and Newcastle Business School can catch the touring show as the venue is in the vicinity. Many performing arts of the present day can be enjoyed with a visit to the Newcastle Gateshead area. Theatre abounds in this part of the city with centres such as Theatre Royal, Sunderland Empire, Live Theatre, Northern Stage, Metro Radio Arena and The Sage Gateshead.
