Composition :

Each pack contains 5 tablets - 1 tablet of Mifepristone…200 mg 4 tablets of Misoprostol, each containing Misoprostol…200 mcg

Action :

The anti-progestational action of mifepristone results from competitive interaction with progesterone at progesterone-receptor sites. The compound inhibits the activity of endogenous or exogenous progesterone. The termination of pregnancy results. Mifepristone blocks the binding of cortisol to its receptor. It does not reduce cortisol production but decreases the effects of excess cortisol, such as high blood sugar levels.

Indications :

Termination of pregnancy (49 days or less duration), postcoital contraception endometriosis, induction of menses (once a month contraceptive pill), intra-uterine foetal death, cervical ripening.

Contraindications :

Contraindicated in Confirmed or suspected ectopic pregnancy. Chronic adrenal failure, concurrent long-term corticosteroid therapy. History of allergy to mifepristone , misoprostol or other prostaglandin. Hemorrhagic disorders or con-current anticoagulant therapy Inherited porphyrias.

Precautions :

Cardiovascular disease, bleeding, renal or hepatic impairment, hypertension, women above 35yrs of age and smokers. Clinical examination should be done to confirm complete termination of pregnancy.

Adverse effects :

Excessive vaginal bleeding, unusual tiredness or weakness, uterine cramping, back pain, diarrhoea, giddiness, headache, nausea, vomiting, heartburn, anxiety, belching, cough, fever, flu-like symptoms, heartburn, increased clear or white vaginal discharge, itching of (the vagina or genital area, fatigue, pain during sexual intercourse, pain or tenderness around eyes and cheekbones, pale skin, shortness of breath, insomnia, tightness of chest or wheezing unusual bleeding or uterine haemorrhage vaginitis.

Drug interactions :

Ketoconazole, itraconazole, erythromycin and grape fruit juice inhibit mifepristone metabolism. Rifampicin, dexamethasone. St. John's Wort and certain anticonvulsants (phenytoin, phenobarbital, carbamazepine) induce mifepristone metabolism.

Dosage :

For termination of pregnancy (49 days or less duration) : Oral : 600mg as a single oral dose followed two days later by 400 micrograms (meg) of misoprostol as a single oral dose. Cervical ripening : Pre operative treatment with mifepristone 50-600mg, 24-30h before surgery. Postcoital contraception : Oral: Single dose of 600mg within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse. Contraceptive : 2-5mg per day for 30 days inhibits ovulation and delays menstruation Once a month contraceptive pili: Oral: Single dose of 200mg taken second day after the mid cycle.

Storage : Store at room temperature. Protect from heat, light and moisture. Keep away from reach of children.
