When you decide to have a new driveway installed you will need to think about several things. You will need to decide who is going to do the work for you. You need to think about what the finished product will look like too. Do you want a tradition concrete driveway or do you want to do something a little nicer like a stamped concrete driveway. There are plenty of options and you need to know what will work best for you.
One of things that you will need to look into is the base of your driveway. The base of your driveway is the driveway gravel. This is a basic first step in having a new driveway installed at your home. You can't lay a driveway down, no matter what type of material you're going to use, without laying down a layer of gravel to get the process started.
The best way to start is just ask around at the rock supply store that you will buy your materials from. They should be able to help you narrow down the choices. There will be all sorts of rock to look at, but you need to stay focused.
Some of the rocks that you will want to avoid are the tiny pieces of gravel. These are often called pea gravel. These pieces of rock are not the right size to use for a driveway. They are far too small to be an effective base for any sort of material that you would lay over the top of them to from a driveway. You will need something larger.
You don't want to go with rocks like lava rock. There are several reasons for this. One is that you don't want colored rock as the basis for your driveway. It will make the driveway turn out wrong. It could end up the driveway is discolored, but usually it is just that lava rock tends to be a little too big for the needs of a driveway project and beyond that it is much more expensive than the rock you'll want to use. This is because part of the reason people like lava rock is because it has a nice color to it and you won't see this if you use it as driveway gravel so why pay for it.
