Dec. 24, 2008 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

This ROAD ALERT was prepared by the Collier County Transportation Services Division to inform the community about scheduled road construction and road maintenance projects along major roadways in Collier County where lane closures are planned or traffic flow may be affected.

COLLIER COUNTY CONSTRUCTION/ MAINTENANCE PROJECTS:

Collier Boulevard between Davis Boulevard and U.S. 41 – Work on this project will be suspended on Dec. 25, Dec. 26, Jan. 1, 2009 and Jan. 2, 2009. Otherwise, on Collier Boulevard between Davis Boulevard and U.S. 41 expect intermittent lane closures both northbound and southbound Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. as crews work on the Collier Boulevard Improvement Project (U.S. 41 to Davis Boulevard). In addition, the median crossover at Cedar Hammock Boulevard has been CLOSED and will remain closed for approximately two months. Drivers may proceed to the subsequent median crossover or signalized intersection to make a U-turn. Furthermore, Lone Creek Drive and Sequoia Drive have been CLOSED TO TRAFFIC and will remain closed for approximately three months as crews install underground utilities. Businesses located on these streets will continue to be accessible via Sierra Meadows Boulevard. Furthermore, the northbound left turn lanes at the main entrance to Wal-Mart and at the Business Circle North entrance to Wal-Mart have been CLOSED and will remain closed for approximately two months as crews rebuild the median. Northbound drivers should use the Business Circle South left turn lane to access Wal-Mart. The speed limit throughout the project has been reduced to 45 MPH. Electronic message boards, lighted arrow boards, advance warning signs and barricades will be used to assist motorists traveling through the area.



Immokalee Road between I-75 and Collier Boulevard – On Immokalee Road between I-75 and Collier Boulevard expect intermittent lane closures both eastbound and westbound as well as in portions of turn lanes from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., weather permitting, for approximately two weeks as crews complete pavement work and handle punch list items as part of the Immokalee Road (I-75 to Collier Boulevard) Widening Project. Electronic message boards, lighted arrow boards, advance warning signs and barricades will be used to assist motorists traveling through the area.

Rattlesnake Hammock Road between Polly Avenue and Collier Boulevard – On Rattlesnake Hammock Road between Polly Avenue and Collier Boulevard expect intermittent lane closures both eastbound and westbound on Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting, through the end of December as crews clean stormwater drains. Lighted arrow boards, advance warning signs and barricades will be used to assist motorists traveling through the area.

Santa Barbara Boulevard Widening Project – Work on this project will be suspended on Dec. 25, Dec. 26, Jan. 1, 2009 and Jan. 2, 2009. Otherwise, on Santa Barbara Boulevard between Davis Boulevard and Coronado Parkway expect traffic to continue to be diverted from two lanes to one lane intermittently in short segments, both northbound and southbound, for approximately two months from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., weather permitting, as crews perform road construction work. Between Calusa Park Elementary School and Painted Leaf Lane the sidewalk on the east side of Santa Barbara Boulevard will remain CLOSED for approximately four months. Pedestrian traffic will be detoured to a temporary walkway and/or permanent new sidewalk on the west side of Santa Barbara Boulevard. In addition, on Radio Road, both eastbound and westbound, between Devonshire Boulevard and Robin Hood Circle, expect traffic to continue to be diverted from two lanes to one lane in each direction for approximately two months from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., weather permitting. Left turns lanes into and out of the Countryside shopping center will be CLOSED for approximately four weeks for median reconstruction. Traffic exiting the shopping center may proceed eastbound and make a U-turn at Santa Barbara Boulevard. Traffic entering the shopping center may continue westbound and make a U-turn at Devonshire Boulevard. Drivers entering or exiting subdivisions on Radio Road between Santa Barbara Boulevard and Robin Hood Circle will not be permitted to make left turns for approximately two months. Drivers may make right turns onto Radio Road and proceed to the next median access where U-turns are permitted. Furthermore, on Golden Gate Parkway, eastbound and westbound, just west of Santa Barbara Boulevard, expect intermittent lane closures for approximately two months from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., weather permitting, in order for crews to do utility and drainage work. Also, on Davis Boulevard between Santa Barbara Boulevard and County Barn Road expect traffic to continue to be diverted from two lanes to one lane in each direction from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays eastbound and Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. westbound, and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays both eastbound and westbound for approximately two months. Beginning on Monday, Jan. 5, 2009 and continuing for approximately two weeks OVERNIGHT from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Sunday through Thursday nights, intermittently, eastbound and westbound traffic on Davis Boulevard between County Barn Road and Radio Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction and on varying nights westbound lanes will be shifted onto the eastbound left lane or eastbound lanes will be shifted onto the westbound left lane as crews pave. Law enforcement officers will be present during this needed night work. On Radio Road westbound between Davis Boulevard and Sanctuary Drive expect traffic to continue to be diverted from two lanes to one lane for approximately three months. The closed lane will be used as a temporary sidewalk. Additionally, on Pine Ridge Road eastbound between Vineyards Boulevard and Logan Boulevard expect traffic to continue to be diverted from three lanes to two lanes, intermittently, for approximately six months from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., weather permitting, as part of this road widening project. One of the two right turn lanes onto Logan Boulevard southbound and the sidewalk on the south side of Pine Ridge Road will remain CLOSED during the six month construction period. Law enforcement officers, flagmen, lighted arrow boards, advance warning signs and barricades will be used to assist motorists traveling through these areas. MOTORISTS WHO DO NOT HAVE A DESTINATION IN THESE LOCATIONS MAY WANT TO TAKE AN ALTERNATE ROUTE.

Vanderbilt Beach Road Widening Project – Work on this project will be suspended on Dec. 25, Dec. 26, Jan. 1, 2009 and Jan. 2, 2009. Otherwise, on Vanderbilt Beach Road between Livingston Road and Collier Boulevard expect intermittent lane closures eastbound and westbound, as needed, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., weather permitting, as part of the Vanderbilt Beach Road Widening Project. Lighted arrow boards, advance warning signs and barricades will be used to assist motorists traveling through the area.
