A mile walk to fight against domestic and sexual violence.

Nov. 10 2012

We are pleased to announce Project HELP, Inc will be holding the 4TH Annual Survivors United in Naples (S.U.N.) Community Walk. This fun and exciting event will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Sugden Regional Park in Naples. Registration begins at 8:30am and the Walk will begin at 9:30am. Project HELP, Inc is committed to forming an ‘A-Ray’ of walkers, and plans to raise $10,000! In order to accomplish this, We are asking each of you to become actively involved and be part of the Project HELP, Inc S.U.N. Community Walk. We invite all survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and violent crime and/or surviving family members who have suffered a sudden loss, homicide or suicide to join us in this walk towards healing. You will have the opportunity to meet our staff and get information about our services. We are also excited this year to be joined by the Community Blood Mobile and Drug Free Collier with Operation Medicine Cabinet. Participants at our event will also have the opportunity to give blood or drop off their unused or expired medications for donation. We are also so thankful and thrilled to have coffee donated by Starbucks and bagels donated by Panera for all participants to enjoy at our event!! Rape is the most under-reported crime in America, so it is difficult to know how many lives are affected by sexual violence. The Bureau of Justice estimates that ONLY 30.7% of victims report the crime to law enforcement. • One out of every eight adult women has been the victim of forcible rape, which is more than 12 million women in America. • In Florida, a sexual offense is reported to law enforcement every 42 minutes.

Suicide and depression is a major, preventable public health problem. In 2006, suicide was the eleventh leading cause of death in the U.S., accounting for 33,300 deaths. The overall rate was 10.9 suicide deaths per 100,000 people. An estimated 12 to 25 attempted suicides occur per every suicide death. • There is one Murder every hour and 37 minutes. • There is one Robbery every 17 minutes • There is one Burglary every 3 minutes With your support, Project HELP, Inc will be able to continue its mission- To offer survivor-focused crisis intervention and advocacy services for victims of crime, survivors of sudden death, and survivors of sexual assault. Project HELP provides a 24-hour crisis & rape hotline, sexual assault and sudden death response, crisis counseling, support groups, information and referral, training, and prevention education. Project HELP Inc. is here to be the ‘Emotional 911’ for all those in crisis in our community. Becoming part of our Sunray Team is easy! • The first step is to sign up with our office. 239-649-1404 • The second step is to simply ask family, friends and neighbors to sponsor you by making a contribution to PHI or to walk at the S.U.N. Walk. To reach our goal of $10,000, we would like each Sunray member to ‘rays’ at least $150. • The third step is to join us on November 10, 2012 as we “Walk to ‘Rays’ Awareness”.

If you cannot attend this event, you can still be a part of the team spirit by sponsoring a S.U.N.Ray member. We know each of you will do your part to support both Project HELP, Inc and Survivors United in Naples in this worthwhile community event. Proceeds collected from the Annual S.U.N. Walk will directly benefit members of our community. Project HELP has served our community for over 25 years as Collier County’s State-Certified Sexual Assault Crisis Center and 24 Hour Hotline and Referral –- We are Collier County’s emotional 9-1-1. All our Services are Confidential and Free of Charge. The funds received through this event will benefit our prevention, education, and survivor support programs, including counseling, support groups, sudden death and sexual assault response teams.
