Not attracted by the traditional idea of spending two weeks lying on a beach being pampered in the Caribbean, Simon and Jenne Morris headed off to Kathmandu the day after their wedding with a 3 week epic adventure planned to climb Mera Peak, cross over the Amphu Labsta pass and then climb Island Peak

Simon commented: “ We had done the hike to Everest base camp in 2011 and found the whole experience of trekking through the mountains out of this world so when we came to talk about what we wanted to do on honeymoon Jenne immediately said she wanted to come back to do more trekking in the Himalaya. But having done a standard trek on their first outing they were now looking for a bigger challenge. Jenne explained “ As you trek to Everest base camp you are surrounded by the most awesome peaks and we really wanted to get to the top of one like a real mountaineer. Neither Simon nor I had any previous experience and when we contacted Private Expeditions who arranged our first trek they suggested we try either Island Peak or Mera Peak. As it turned out we decided to be greedy and did both!” Paul Deakin of Private Expeditions said: “Mera Peak and Island Peak are both real Himalayan summits weighing in at over 6000m but Simon and Jenne were fit and determined and we did all the technical training they needed to do the climbs safely while they were on the trip. Our guides on these mountains are fantastic and they have all actually summited Everest successfully so are incredibly experienced mountaineers” Simon commented: “Pimba and Pema, our climbing guides, were unbelievable-when we were tired, cold and feeling exhausted they were always right there, supportive encouraging and making us feel totally safe. Spending your honeymoon in sleeping bags might seem strange to some people but our memories of our first weeks together as a married couple are just out of this world.
