August 03, 2013 - The Duchess of Cambridge’s home village of Bucklebury, Berkshire, is to have a specialcommemorative mug designed by British ceramics manufacturer Emma Bridgewater to mark Prince George of Cambridge’s association with the village.

The limited edition mug in baby blue has been designed to complement the village’s first commission for the Royal Wedding, from the Staffordshire-based pottery company. The mugs which will go on sale from this week from the Bucklebury Parish website www.buckleburyparish.org and will be available to residents of the village as well as collectors from further afield with villagers being given a special discount of 25% off the purchase price. Deliveries for the mugs are anticipated in early autumn. As well as the Royal baby’s name and date of birth, the design depicts a wreath of acorns, highlighting the avenue of Oaks, a famous landmark in the village associated with an earlier Royal visit to the parish by Queen Elizabeth I.

Wynne Frankum, chairman of the parish council said: “We wanted to commemorate this historic and happy occasion and to mark the association of Prince George with Bucklebury. The production of this limited edition mug is something special for everyone to enjoy.”

Christie Morris, chair of Bucklebury Community Events which is organising the sale of the mugs added: “We are especially delighted that Emma Bridgewater has agreed to work with us on this – they have created a stunning design for us. The mug will be a unique and collectible item with the added bonus that funds raised from the sales will go towards future parish events and celebrations.”

It is anticipated that just 1000 of Bucklebury’s Hooray for Prince George mugs will be produced. The half-pint mugs will be priced £20 plus p&p and £15 to Bucklebury Parish residents.

For more information please see www.bucklebury.org (tel: 01635 873911 email: buckleburyevents@gmail.com). Residents wishing to purchase mugs can either download the order form online or use the printed copy available in the September edition of the parish magazine, The Oaks.
