Researchers looked and evaluated data of 173,000 women. The data included information about participants’ diet and other health information. Diet soda was not included in this research.
Among all the participants, 883 women were diagnosed with RA. It was found women who drank one or more sugary beverages per day are at higher risk of developing RA than those women who drank no such beverages or limited their consumption to less than once a month. Researchers argued that these women are at a higher risk of getting seropositive- a more severe form of RA.
Although the researchers proposed that drinking sugary beverages may increase the risk of RA, they also mentioned that other factors like lifestyle habits can also play an important role. Habits like Smoking can aggravate the risk of RA. The research didn’t prove any cause effect relationship between Sugary drinks and RA. These findings are assumed to be preliminary till published in peer reviewed journal.
