Researchers analyzed data teenagers, Among them 30% went to bed after 11.30 pm in regular school days and later than 1.30 am in the summer. After graduation, it was observed that teens who stayed up late in school days had less GPA
20th November 2013, USA (http://www.realpharmacyrx.co/) : You must have heard “Early to bed” lyrics. They are most probably applicable to the teenager in your home who spends nights partying, socializing or chatting with friends. This behavior, although gives him a lot of enjoyment, may be detrimental if academic performance is considered. Researchers found that teens who stay up late are more likely to do poorly in academic examinations and have emotional troubles in young adulthood.
Researchers analyzed data of 2,700 teenagers between the ages 13 and 18. Among them, 30% went to bed after 11.30 pm in regular school days and later than 1.30 am in the summer. After graduation, it was observed that teens who stayed up late in school days had less GPA and were more prone to emotional problems than their peers who belong to category “Early to bed”.
Staying up late in summer didn’t have much effect on academic performance. However, researchers found close association between staying up late night in summers and emotional troubles in late adulthood.
Nowadays, a lot of incentives are there for staying late. Let it be a burden to complete school project, academic pressures, need to socialize and connect with friends or just satisfaction of having some free time, teens often sacrifice or manipulate their sleeping habits. This makes the situation more challenging. However, it should be noted that this research shows positive link between healthy sleep habits and better academic performance. With better support, sleep behaviors can be altered.
Although the study detected a correlation between sleeping late and possibility of lower academic and emotional performance, they didn’t find any cause-effect relationship between these two factors.
