Symptoms, Causes and Treatments of Endometriosis

It is a medical condition takes place in a woman where abnormal growth of cells (endometrial cells) that form the inside or lining the tissues, in a location outside of the uterus. Endometrial cells are formed due to menstruation and are found in vagina, cervix and/or bladder. Researcher researched and estimated that it is more common in white, taller, and thin women with low Body Mass Index (BMI).

Symptoms :

Women who have endometriosis usually have no symptoms or very fewer symptoms. Most common symptoms that are found in endometriosis affected women are pelvic pain during or just before menstruation and lessen after menstruation. Women also experience extreme pain during sexual intercourse or during urination. Other symptoms could be low back pain, lower abdominal pain, diarrhea and/or constipation, blood while urinating, and fatigue.

Causes :

Causes of endometriosis are possible when there is transfer of endometrial tissue during surgery. This type of surgery is responsible for the endometriosis implants which can be seen in surgical scars such as episiotomy, or cesarean section scars. Development of endometriosis is also possible due to transfer of endometrial cells via blood stream or lymphatic system.

Treatments :

Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) analogs are effective to relieve pain and reduce the size of endometriosis implants. Due to this, menstrual period stops mimicking menopause.

Doctors also suggests the women suffering from endometriosis to take Oral Contraceptive Pill (OCP) continuously due to which women will get rid of having any menstrual period at all. This will also give relief from pain.

Women’s are also suggested by the doctors to take progestins like provera, cyrin, amen which plays more vital role than birth control pill. Also drugs like danazol (danocrine), and aromatase inhibitors like anastrozole and letrozole are prescribed by doctors which are vital to treat endometriosis.
