Pituitary tumors are benign because they don’t spread to other parts of the body, but they still can create many health problems because of their location near the brain.
14th May, 2014 (http://www.kamagrarx.co/) : Pituitary tumors are benign because they don’t spread to other parts of the body, but they still can create many health problems because of their location near the brain. The growth of uncontrolled cell in the pituitary gland causes pituitary tumor.
Symptoms:
There are many possible signs and symptoms of pituitary tumors. They are extra hormones in the blood, flushing of the face, weak muscles and bones, high blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, headache, vision loss, large hands and feet, lack of breast milk while breastfeeding, breast milk even when not pregnant, menstrual cycle changes, lower sex drive, loss of body hair, impotence, weight gain, bruising easily, delayed sexual development and growth in children, irritability, depression, vomiting, anxiety, dizziness, confusion, and seizures.
Treatments:
Surgical removal of pituitary tumor is necessary if a tumor is pressing on the optic nerve. There are two surgical techniques to treat pituitary tumor. They are:
1.Endoscoping transnasal trassphenoidal approach: With this approach, doctor can reach and remove the tumor through nose without affecting the brain.
2.Transcranial approach: In this approach, tumor is removed through the upper part of the skull by way of incision in scalp. Radiation therapy uses high energy X-rays to destroy the tumors. Methods of radiation therapy include external beam radiation and gamma knife stereotactic radio-surgery. Treatment with medications that helps to block excess hormones secretion includes:-
1.Prolactin-secreting tumors: Drugs such as- bromocriptine (parlodel, cycloset) and cabergaline can treat this type of tumor by decresing prolactin secretion and reducing the size of tumor.
2.Growth hormone-secreting tumors: Drugs known as- somatostatin analogs(Sandostatin and Somatuline depot) causes decrease in growth hormone production and reduce the size of the tumor.
