It has been 15 years, since the time Mifepristone was approved in the United States. Around 2 million females from America have utilized it to terminate pregnancy.

September 21, 2015, US: It has been 15 years, since the time Mifepristone was approved in the United States. Around 2 million females from America have utilized it to terminate pregnancy. But, the activist in favor of pregnancy ending said that there is a huge disparity for abortion pill access among states. This ranged from availability of doctors who conduct the procedure to the restrictions on the technology’s use in dispensing the medicines. Not every woman is able to get the tablets in time, even if the laws are favorable.

The corporate vice preside of Whole Woman’s Health, Andrea Ferrigno said that she has seen the bad, good and the ugly of this bitter truth. Her organization provides abortion pill in Texas and New Mexico. She interacted with reporters to say the medicines did benefit many women. But, she also knows about scenarios when a female’s life was negatively impacted due to irrelevant restriction imposed by the politicians for Mifepristone. The displeasure could even extend to the victim’s community and family.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data proves that around 205 of U.S. pregnancy termination cases are non-invasive i.e. induced by medicines. Mifeprex is taken within 7 weeks of pregnancy. This medicine breaks the uterine lining, while Misoprostol evicts fetus by generating uterus womb contractions. These tablets can be consumed in home, unlike vacuum aspiration, or dilation curettage, which requires clinical procedure.

In surgical process, the doctor aligns instruments to evict the pregnancy parts from the uterus completely. In some cases, low dose of Misoprostol may be used to ease off the pain and dilate the cervix. Mostly, females prefer ingesting the tablets in home. They buy abortion pill online to access the medicines, than visiting clinics. Several females enjoy the right to reproductive health via telemedicine option. Internet pharmacies and NGO’s are also joining hands together to make these products more accessible.

The Gallup Polls concluded that public support to pregnancy termination was divided across support or non-support for the Mifepristone tablets. The rate of agreement to the procedure increased, if the woman’s life was threatened, or the pregnancy came into being because of sexual violence. But, support decreased in instances of longer gestation period, wherein the female will be at risk, if her fetus would be removed. Rural women are benefited with telemedicine service, which can be used to get abortion pill.

In telemedicine, the female is able to talk to doctor over webcam, and the physician advises on the pregnancy ending procedure through video conferencing or text messaging. But, in about 18 states this service is banned, while in 3 states Mifepristone has to be consumed in an ambulatory surgical center, even if the method is non-invasive. Women could also buy abortion pill online and use the product at clinic, than directly purchasing the same from a health institute.

The professor from department of gynecology, obstetrics, and reproductive sciences at the Bixby Center for Global Reproductive Health (University of California, San Francisco), Dr. Dan Grossman said in a call that abortion pill via telemedicine enabled females to reach the service while in early gestation, which is effective and safe. As the abortion pills cost is low at many centers and internet pharmacies, women also find it easier to purchase the life saving medications without straining their finances.

The Planned Parenthood is the nations largest provide of pregnancy ending services and medicine, which is being targeted by an anti-group named, the Center for Medical Progress. It has released many edited videos misconstruing the abortion pill facts and how the Planned Parenthood representatives are illegally selling fetal tissue of the dead embryo. The war is ongoing for two months now. The Planned Parenthood however has denied inclusion in any illegal activities.

They told that the patients are given the choice to either donate the fetal tissue when pregnancy as has ended, or take a fee for transporting and processing the same to research facilities. Be it a procedure including Mifeprex or surgery, these rights remain unperturbed. However, the anti-groups are still trying to influence state government to cancel the $500 million funding to this organization, which included abortion pills cost. The organization is being stressed with anonymous videos, which are not viable.

The Guttmacher research group said that since the medicines became legal in the United States, lesser people are opting for unsafe fetus eviction techniques. But, 280 laws have been formed from 2011 that restricts the use of the Misoprostol in the country. Dr. Beverly Winikoff, the president of Gynuity Health Projects has instated the abortion pill facts, saying the medicine does not increase the rate of pregnancy termination. In 12 states the pills can be given by midwives, nurse practitioners, while in other states, these can be given only by physicians.
