When you are going to put a vinyl floor or carpeting over the old hardwood floor, you will want that surface to be flat and even before you start. You will find that any dips, gaps, and the other variations in the surface can affect the surface of the vinyl or carpeting. A liquid floor leveler is made for addressing this issue. It is actually a form of cement, but it is almost as thin as water so that it can spread out and find its own level when you pour it down, filling in gaps and the low spots. At this time, this article is going to deliver several tips to level a hardwood floor. Just take a look.

The first thing that you have to do is to set the level on the floor near one corner and you need to assess how it is sitting on the floor. After that, you need to search for the gaps under the level that indicating the low spots on the floor. If you see them in certain location, you should make wide circular marks by using your pencil.

The second thing that you have to do is to repeat the process across the floor and you should work in sections. Then, you need to lay the level in the different directions, searching for all the spots where the flat span of the level is not sitting snugly against the surface of the floor.

The third thing that you have to do is to open the liquid floor leveler and you should stir it. You can start the corner farthest from the doorway, pour leveler over the first are which you marked out. After that, you need to pour it right in the middle of the area slowly and watching it spread out. You should stop when you find that the edge of the puddle of the leveler is almost to the lines that you marked.

Lastly, what you need to do is to repeat for each marked area along the floor and working your way back out of the room. In order to fill in the marked areas, you need to fill in any cracks, gaps, or gouges that you come across. You should get your concrete towel handy for smoothing out any level which bunches up anywhere, but only as a last resort. You need to try to let the leveler even itself out throughout the floor.
