FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 8, 2009 Contact:  Pallas Diaz Phone:  239-248-2635   Collier Spay Neuter Clinic Hosts Discount Spay/Neuter Day for Feral Cats Held in Honor of National Feral Cat Day   Naples, FL  -  On Friday (October 16) Collier Spay Neuter Clinic, (CSNC) in Naples will hold a low cost spay or neuter event for feral/free-roaming cats in Naples. This event is being held in honor of National Feral Cat Day, the official kickoff for a year-long educational program about the importance of humane programs for feral cats.

“Feral cats are members of the domestic cat species, but they cannot be adopted into homes.  They live outdoors in family groups called colonies,” said Pallas Diaz, Executive Director of CSNC. “Neutering them is essential to a program called Trap‐Neuter-Return, which ends the  breeding cycle and makes feral cats better neighbors.”    National Feral Cat Day was launched in 2001 by Alley Cat Allies, the national advocate for feral and stray cats and a recognized authority on Trap‐Neuter‐Return—a program in which cats who live outdoors are humanely trapped and brought to a veterinarian to be evaluated, spayed or neutered and vaccinated.   To celebrate National Feral Cat Day, CSNC will spay/neuter any cat, in a humane trap, for the low cost of $30 per cat. Along with the sterilization, cats will receive a rabies vaccine, earmite cleaning and treatment, deworming and ear tipping. All cats must arrive at the clinic at 7:30 a.m., and must be in a humane trap. Appointments are necessary and can be made by calling the clinic at 239-514-SNIP(7647).   The clinic accepts cash or checks only, and services must be paid for at the time of the animal's drop off. All cats must be picked up at 3:30 the afternoon of the surgery.

Collier Spay Neuter Clinic is located at 2544 Northbrooke Plaza Drive in Naples.

“Trap‐Neuter‐Return ends behaviors commonly associated with mating, like yowling and  roaming. Along with the use of humane deterrents, this program ensures that people and feral  cats get along peacefully,” said Becky Robinson, president of Alley Cat Allies.

“We are indebted to our individual clinic donors for helping us to sponsor this event,” said  Pallas Diaz.    ##   Collier Spay Neuter Clinic is a high quality, high volume, low cost spay and neuter clinic, which services all of southwest Florida.  The non-profit 501(c)(3) organization's mission is to provide quality, targeted, affordable spay/neuter services as a non-lethal solution to the pet overpopulation crisis.
