Frugal: Cold Drink Treats - FYI

Frosty
1 cup milk (low-fat is okay)
1/2 cup Nesquik powdered mix or similar chocolate mix
3 cups vanilla ice cream
Allow ice cream to soften in refrigerator for one hour. Mix milk, Nesquik powder and ice cream in blender. Servings: 4.

Berry Banana Smoothie
1 cup reduced-fat vanilla yogurt
1 medium ripe banana, peeled, cut into chunks and frozen
1 cup  frozen unsweetened mixed berries
1 cup fat-free milk
Combine yogurt, banana, frozen berries and milk in a blender or food processor. Cover and process until smooth. Pour into chilled glasses; serve immediately. Servings: 3.

Cherry Slurpee
2 cups club soda, chilled, divided
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon unsweetened cherry Kool-Aid powder
1/2 teaspoon maraschino cherry juice
2 1/2 cups crushed ice
Combine one cup of club soda, sugar, cherry Kool-Aid powder and cherry juice in a blender until completely mixed. Add the crushed ice and process until blended smooth. Combine the cherry mixture and remaining club soda in a pitcher. Stir just to mix. Pour into glasses. Servings: 2.

Banana Berry Freeze
2 cups ice
1 ripe banana, peeled
3/4 cup strawberry daiquiri mix
1/4 cup piña colada mix
whipped cream
Place ice, banana, daiquiri mix and piña colada mix in a blender and process on high for 10 to15 seconds until smooth. Pour into two wine glasses and garnish with whipped cream. Servings: 2.

Strawberry or Orange Julius
1 6 oz. can frozen concentrated orange juice or 2 cups fresh strawberries
1 cup milk (low-fat is okay)
1 cup water
1/4 cup granulated sugar or Splenda or 2 Tbsp. honey
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
8 ice cubes
Pour orange juice concentrate, milk, water, sugar and vanilla extract in

 Fruit Smoothies
2 cups milk or 1 cup milk & 1 cup yogurt or 2 cups buttermilk
1 cup ice cubes
3 Tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
In a blender combine all ingredients and blend until smooth. Makes 2 smoothies.
You can make any combination of the following for your smoothies.
When using juices substitute juice for milk in recipe.
Top off any smoothie with ginger ale or sparkling water (optional)
strawberries, blueberries, peaches and a sprig of mint
strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries
strawberries, raspberries and banana
orange juice, pineapple juice, banana
crushed pineapple, 1/4 tsp coconut flavoring
apple juice, coconut and 1/4 tsp. grated ginger
banana and 2 Tbsp. peanut butter
banana, strawberries, 2 Tbsp. chocolate syrup
strawberries, banana, peaches and apple
mixed berries and peaches or pears
bananas and kiwi fruit
watermelon
cantaloupe
peaches and 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 cup mint extract, 1/4 cup chocolate syrup
4 tsp. malted milk powder
1/4 cup chocolate syrup
1/3 cup unsweetened grape juice
1/4 cup chocolate syrup and 1/4 cup coffee (don't use with fruit)

Frugal Punches
1 part apple juice
1 part ginger ale
Make ice cubes or an ice ring out of the apple juice.

OR
1 part White cranberry juice
1 part Orange juice
Citrus slices (orange or lemon)
A little bit of pineapple pieces
Some Sparking Water
Ice cubes
