24-hour crisis hotline Project Help received honors as a 2012 Diamond Volunteer Award winner at their January reception.
Project Help was honored for their outstanding work in the community by the Diamond Volunteer Program on January 26. The Project HELP Crisis Center is an ‘Emotional 911’ for all those in crisis in our community. The mission is to offer survivor-focused crisis intervention and advocacy services for victims of crime, survivors of sudden death, and survivors of sexual assault.
Project HELP provides a 24-hour crisis hotline, sexual assault and sudden death response, crisis counseling, support groups, information and referral, training, and prevention education. After intensive training, volunteers shadow an experienced advocate to learn more. Then they begin their journey to make a difference to the people who are facing a traumatic and difficult time in their life. They help people at the worst of times.
“I am so proud of our organization for winning the Diamond Volunteer Award,” said Michele English, Executive Director of Project Help. “It is a great time to be working with an agency where the services are truly in need. Crisis happens every day and considering the state of the economy, it seems crises are on the rise and affecting everyone. Working at Project Help is allowing me to give back by being available to help those with needs, as well as helping an agency that is so necessary for our community.”
The Diamond Volunteer Awards was founded by Kelly Capolino, a local real estate professional with Keating Associates, as a way to recognize outstanding volunteerism in Collier County. Capolino selects three local organizations to be honored each year based on their volunteer dedication and the extraordinary positive influence they make in the lives of others.
“Selecting three winners each year becomes more and more difficult as there are so many deserving organizations in our community,” said Capolino. “My personal goal is to help not-for-profits grow and prosper and, of course, it all goes back to my real estate career, which is the driving force behind everything. My career goal is to deliver the best results, care about my clients and get the job done… and while doing that I can pass along information about all these great not-for-profits at the same time.”
Reading Project Help’s application for the Diamond Volunteer Award gave Capolino goose bumps … the true indication that they would be chosen as a winner.
“Through the dedication of Project Help’s volunteers, staff and board members, lives are changed and saved. This organization is remarkable humanitarian effort.”
