The Diamond Volunteer Program honored 30 volunteers from Miracles in Action, a nonprofit group that fights poverty in Guatemala, at their recent awards reception.

Volunteers gathered for an evening of wine, food, conversation and accolades at the recent Diamond Volunteer Award reception honoring Miracles in Action. The organization and its volunteers were honored for their outstanding work and for the valuable contributions they make in providing Guatemalans, who are living in extreme poverty, with opportunities to help themselves through educational, vocational, and other sustainable development projects. “I am amazed at the amount of work the Miracles in Action volunteers do, from selling beads and Guatemalan handicrafts to building schools in the poorest of villages, this group is truly amazing,” says Kelly Capolino, founder of the Diamond Volunteer Program and Award. “With the dedication of their devoted volunteers and board members, lives are changed today and for future generations. Their volunteers help others to imagine a dream and create miracles in their own lives.”

Miracles in Action is a 501c-3 charity that seeks out under-served pockets of need in rural Guatemala. They research projects that focus on education, vocational training, and sustainable development and then select projects that achieve long-term results, improve quality of life, and allow truly impoverished people to help themselves. They believe in working in partnership with poor Guatemalan people, giving them a hand up, instead of a hand-out.

Penny Rambacher, founder of Miracles in Action, strongly believes that education is the surest way out of poverty and devotes much of her efforts in that direction. Miracles in Action has built 37 schools in Guatemala.

"This was the first time 30 of our volunteers and supporters have come together in one place. And, I had the opportunity to acknowledge each for their individual talents and time dedicated to "Miracles" -- from selling handicrafts at farmers markets and home parties, or computer and office help, to donating or raising funds to build schools,” says Rambacher. “I want to thank Kelly for the party, award and also for her generous pledge to donate 15% of her income from any real estate sold mentioning Miracles in Action. We hope for lots of houses so Kelly can pay it forward."

The Diamond Volunteer Awards was founded by Kelly Capolino, a local real estate professional with Keating Associates, as a way to recognize outstanding volunteerism in Collier County. Capolino selects three local organizations to be honored each year based on their volunteer dedication and the extraordinary positive influence they make in the lives of others.
