Unique Pet Names Keep Coming!
Dear Heloise: Your PET-NAME COLUMN had me cracking up laughing. Through the years, my daughters have given our many pets some crazy names. Since they have grown up and moved out, I still have two dogs, Hiway (he was found on the road) and Maxwell (rescued around the time Don Adams, whose name was Maxwell on the old TV show "Get Smart," passed away). Thank you so much for your column today! -- Anne Barefoot, Neptune Beach, Fla.
Anne, glad you liked the column. Pet names always bring in many, many responses, and we really enjoy reading through them. Here are a couple more to give you a laugh:
Gary S. of San Antonio writes: "We have two miniature schnauzers, one white and one black and silver. We named them Salty and Pepper. When we go walking in the neighborhood, all the neighbors remember their names, even if they do not remember ours."
Shelley F., via e-mail, writes: "My dad is a lawyer and former judge. Our Dobermans were named Miss Demeanor, Docket Call and Habeas Corpus!"
Thanks to all the fabulous readers who took the time to drop in and share their pets' names with us!
KITTEN RESCUE
Dear Heloise: I rescued my cat Lola from the garden center at a home-improvement store. One of the clerks at the store said that her two litter mates had been rescued the previous week.
Lola has grown from a tiny, starving kitten to a beautiful tortoiseshell cat. At first, I was concerned that she would be too wild to tame. But she has adapted well -- or should I say that she has us trained. -- Judy Week, via e-mail
Lola is one lucky and smart cat. Many times, these pets turn out to be so sweet! Think they know they have it good?
PET PAL
Dear Readers: Lucille T. DeForge of Saranac Lake, N.Y., sent in a photo of her two look-alike, year-and-a-half-old miniature dachshunds, Itsy and Bitsy, posing for their photo looking straight into the camera. They sure are cute! If your newspaper doesn't print the pet photo, go to www.Heloise.com and click on Pet of the Week to see the photo of the miniature dachshunds.
CAT FOOD
Dear Heloise: When I am down to the last of the dry cat food, there seems to always be a lot of dust at the bottom that my cat doesn't eat. So, I pour what's left of the food into a colander, shake, and the dust falls through, leaving the big chunks. -- T.G. in Houston
CLEANING THE AQUARIUM
Dear Heloise: Anyone who has a fish aquarium knows that it does require some work to keep it looking its best. Most people use certain cleaning tools that make cleaning easier. I have placed these into an extra tote bag. I wrote on the outside "aquarium supplies." Now, everything is kept in one place, and it makes the cleanup just that much easier. -- Casey in Roanoke, Va.
