Itraconazole is used to treat infections caused by fungus, which can invade any part of the body including the lungs, mouth or throat, toenails, or fingernails.
- May 29 2014, Dallas, (http://onlinegenericpills.com/) : Sporanox contain itraconazole works by killing certain types of fungi. It is used to treat many types of fungal infections. Sporanox can also be used to prevent fungal infections in people whose immune system is not working properly.
Sporanox may cause certain heart problems and may not be suitable if you have heart problems or are at risk of developing heart problems. Your prescriber will monitor you for heart problems and will also advise you of the signs and symptoms you need to look out. If you develop any of these symptoms, immediately seek medical advice.
Indications :
SPORANOX capsules are indicated for :
Persistent vulvovaginal candidiasis which does not respond to conventional therapy.
Dermatomycosis which does not respond to conventional therapy.
Although proof of efficacy is limited, SPORANOX capsules have been used in fungal keratitis.
Onychomycosis, caused by dermatophytes and/or yeasts and which does not respond to other therapy.
Although proof of efficacy is limited, SPORANOX capsules have been used in: systemic aspergillosis and candidiasis, histoplasmosis, sporotrichosis, paracoccidioidomycosis and blastomycosis.
Dosage :
The usual recommended dose is 200-400 mg daily as a single dose or two divided doses. Capsules should be taken with a full meal because food improves absorption. The capsule and liquid are not interchangeable, and only the liquid form is used for treating oral candidiasis. Contraindications :
Your prescriber may only prescribe this medicine with special care or may not prescribe it at all if you :
are a woman who could become pregnant and who is not using an effective method of birth control
are allergic or sensitive to or have had a bad reaction to azoles in the past
are allergic or sensitive to or have had a reaction to any of the ingredients in the medicine
are elderly
are immune suppressed, are pregnant
have certain fungal or viral infections
have chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
have fructose intolerance, have gastrointestinal problems
have glucose-galactose malabsorption problems
have kidney problems, have lung problems
have or have had certain heart problems or have risk factors for certain heart problems
have or have had liver problems
Side effects :
Convulsions, decreased urine
dry mouth, fever
increased thirst, irregular heartbeat
loss of appetite, mood changes
muscle pain or cramps, nausea or vomiting
numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, or lips
shortness of breath, unusual tiredness or weakness
Drug interaction :
Itraconazole reduces the liver metabolism (breakdown) of some drugs, resulting in increased blood levels and side effects from the affected drugs. Life-threatening adverse effects occurred when itraconazole was combined with cisapride (no longer available in the U.S.), pimozide (Orap), quinidine (Quinaglute, Quinidex), dofetilide (Tikosyn), or levomethadyl (Orlaam). Therefore, itraconazole should not be combined with these drugs.
Storage :
Store at room temperature. Protect from heat, light and moisture. Keep away from reach of children.
