November 7, 2015 (http://www.abortionpillrx.com/): A trend has struck in Ireland over social media, where Irish women are tweeting menstrual details to the Prime Minister Enda Kenny in helping publicity of a campaign in repealing restrictive abortion laws. Pregnancy termination is a major issue in Ireland, where only in 2013 after large street protests from pro-choice and pro-lifers stand for and against, led to a lift of ban about the endings were allowed only if a mother’s life is at risk or danger. The abortion pills are only given by recognized doctor on prescription or the woman is subjected to surgical fetus removal.
The tablets or surgeries are done only if the pregnancy is due to rape, incest or underlying fetal fatality. Ireland became the first country to enable gay marriage by a referendum this year, which acted as a motivator to activist supporting pregnancy ending in a region that is socially conservative and strongly Catholic. The calls for repeal of 8th amendment, which grants equal protection of life to the unborn child and mother, accelerated ten-fold. The Tweet trend was set off by Grainne Maguire, a comedian, who tweeted periods beginning details and that of the bleeding flow.
The RTE/Behavior & Attitudes poll this week depicted that less than a quarter of citizens support pregnancy ending in all circumstances, with 14 percent against the same, and 64 percent in favor of the ending fetus life provision in only some scenarios. If women can buy Misoprostol pills at their will or at least to protect their life, a lot many women may be able to save their life from being endangered. While in United States and many other parts of the world, females enjoy right to reproductive system management with access to the medical pregnancy termination and vacuum aspiration, Irelands lacks necessary reforms.
Grainne was of the opinion that as women know how much care the Irish states has about reproductive parts, it is but fair to let the Ireland leader @EndaKennyTD understand the complete details of females’ menstrual cycle. Many women joined hands in the tweet campaign, and messaged the Enda about their periods, one even saying what she craves during her cycles, or what she hates about it. After the campaign kick started this week, it went viral on Twitter, and is growing immensely with more participants joining over the rights for accessing Misoprostol tablets or safe pregnancy ending laws.
The ban on pregnancy ending in 2013 was lifted given a woman’s death on being denied fetus eviction, even when the fetus was dying. Her death sparked up a controversy making international headlines, and protests all over the country and world in support pregnancy termination. Citizens think that Government is not taking up the issues as they fear being alienated by conservative voters even though the domination of Roman Catholic Church has decreased considerably. The Church has an eminent role in politics in Ireland, where divorce was a crime about 2 decades ago.
Enda Kenny is a practicing Roman Catholic who was sent plastic fetuses and letters inked in blood by pro lifers for initiating the limited reforms and developments, which are to be left for the next government. Labour, his junior coalition partner is going to campaign for the elections next year for enabling laws that allow women to buy abortion pills in circumstances of incest, rape, and fatal fetal abnormality. Pro choice activist want the abolition of 8th amendment of the constitution, and opponents demand no change in the same at all. Maguire in her tweet to @EndaKennyTD said to women that they can demolish human rights, but not do the same to their humor.
