The protest displays are graphic and offensive such as dismembered fetuses compared to lynching, holocaust, sin, and slaughterhouse. It gets worse when the entry of those seeking healthcare to the clinic is blocked, and women with their companions are shoved.
A four year old kid was once rounded up accompanying a female with comments like the mother is going to kill his baby sister or brother. Obviously, this puts women in an unsafe atmosphere, where taking abortion pills in the clinic is nothing less than going to a prison cell, being called names and targeted by an angry mob. The people often return frightened, upset, or teary. Some even drop the idea of entering the clinic because of emotional distress, adding complications to their medical condition.
The women may face long term depression, and avoid urgent medical care or a round up meeting with the doctor. If the protest was peaceful, maybe there would not be much hue and cry about pro-lifers banging about medical abortion for fetus eviction. But, these protests are loud, unethical, and dangerous for those needing real help. The threats about killing, murder and assault is topped with obscenity, and no one can forget the fatally shot Steve Rogers, the clinic security guard in 2001.
However, it is hard to understand why such absurd activities were allowed for so long that too in broad daylight in a society that is modern, and talks about protecting women from violence. Both the police and council could not do much but intervene only when a crime was actually committed.
